I just wanted to show off this picture of Emmy I took while we were at the park today. It'll show up later when my Tweets get copied to my journal, but I thought this turned out really well.

Her haaaaairs :D

(Also yes, she can use a regular swing now, but this particular park only has three baby swings and one for use by handicapped kids. Lucky for her she still fits in the baby swings.)

I JUST WANT TO SAY:

AWW, LOOKIT MY NEW LITTLE TURTLE <33.
(omfg my hand looks sooo weird. I'm blaming that on the angle. My thumb is really not gigantic and my fingers are not super-short, wtf
OKAY I had to take another picture of my hand. But there's also Finey, so. aeltyasei IT STILL LOOKS WEIRD. It doesn't look like that when I LOOK at my hand, just in the pictures... D:)

I totally love little reptile figurines XD FOR PROOF HERE IS ONE OF MY SHELVES:

And I also have these little guys, who don't have a place on a shelf yet (and can't stay here, or cats/child will get them):

They were called "sandbags".

CAN YOU BELIEVE THEY WERE ONLY $1.99 IN A ZOO GIFT SHOP. I seriously would have expected like, at least $5.99. I got the lizard and turtle, and Emmy got a sparkly elephant Dustin tried repeatedly to get her to name "Elephanty". I also got a shirt, but it's just grey with the lines of a tiger face and says NIABI ZOO MOLINE ILLINOIS or something like that.

ALSO ALSO I've got some really good pics from the zoo yesterday, but today I'm really going to try to WRITE because I miss my guys soooo much. Dustin's off at Riverboat Days to see life-size Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots; I gave the camera to him, to get pictures, which is why these pictures suck--my phone camera doesn't have a flash, and apparently likes to get really blurry. It's a great camera when you're outside!

Whoo, four hours of sleep. I was up until after one, mostly because I thought maybe, just maybe, [livejournal.com profile] lilenth could be reasoned with. Nope! I saw I had another comment from her this morning, but deleted it without reading. I have more important shit to do than talk in circles because some dipshit has communication/comprehension problems and is too arrogant and obtuse to realise/admit they're wrong. Some people are just persecuted by the masses, u guiz
(Though like I told Kelly, I was having fun bonding with her and [livejournal.com profile] kiptripsyc over the massive fail we were collectively witnessing. It's terribly frustrating to spell a notion out to the exact letter and watch someone repeatedly Not Get It, but it was also hilarious. <3 you guys)

Emmy's watching Wonderpets for the first time in...weeks, at least. I was thinking she didn't like them anymore, which would have truly been sad--they have awesome songs, okay. It's also not terribly hot today, same yesterday, so I'm thinking tomorrow it'll probably be a billion degrees with a hundred and forty seven percent humidity. Having to be at work an extra half-hour because of our new mandatory unpaid meal breaks sucks, though today I started listening to It, and the huge huge long almost teal deer intros to each of the main characters passed most of the time. I was really pissed for about two hours because I had to move to someone else's station so someone else could use mine, as clients were visiting, and the one I had to sit at had an entirely different keyboard, which I loathed. The screen was also lower, which meant I had to crane my neck all around, and my neck and back really started to hurt after like ten minutes. And, of course, it took me a week and a half to log into the fucking system, and because we only have that half-hour break, the time it took for the system to accept my passwords and such counted against my productivity. Argh.

I'm still so far behind on reading...I've skimmed most of the stuff I've seen posted, but I haven't had time (even before my exercise in futility last night) to read thoroughly and comment yet, so I'll save it for when I can give something other than "I RED DIS". I've written a few things, but they're not ready to be posted yet. I'd really like to get this one piece I started months ago finished, but it seems like every time I open it, the characters involved go "BRB READING WAR AND PEACE. IN BRAILLE~" or something. TRUST ME YOU GUYS, YOU WANT TO FINISH THIS SCENE. (Of course, they have no trouble whatsoever going through it in my head while I'm a work and can't write anything down, jerks)

Here are some other thoughts:

~ ...the Wonderpets are putting oil on a dinosaur.
~ Mmm, cashews
~ Quizno's > Subway. Not in nutrition/weight loss capabilities, but definitely in taste.
~ I was going to buy moar tea vodka, but then I didn't. THIS WEEKEND, THOUGH
~ YES DUSTIN, I KNOW YOU WANT THE FLIPPING RIVER PICTURES
~ No more bird sightings in the house (SO FAR THIS WEEK). I figure two in twenty minutes is about the limit I can deal with for another five years. Yes, yes, at least they weren't bats...
~ I tried to clip Welly's claws last night, but some of them are like...splintering? Peeling? Idk :\ She didn't seem like they were bothering her, but I don't speak cat.
~ I almost seriously want to get a bb gun for the guys across the street that come rolling up with the bass in their speakers rattling my monitor on my desk. REALLY, YOU GUYS??
~ AND SEMAGIC ISN'T WORKING FOR POSTING arrr I hate using the "post entry" box.

Imma go put on a pizza for me and Emmy's dinner--last night I forgot to eat dinner and have only eaten a small frozen meal (turkey/cornbread stuffing/apples), so...idc, I'm eating pizza. And, um, broccoli. Yes.

Child has evidently learned the great truth that is April Fool's Day.

I get to my mother-in-law's to pick her up, and she blasts me with, "HEY MOMMY...THERE'S A LADYBUG ON YOUR SHIRT."

My tank top has several small thread designs and little wooden beads on it. THERE COULD VERY WELL BE AN ASIAN BEETLE (which she still calls ladybugs) ON IT, since they are pretty much EVERYWHERE from April until November.

So I'm like, "What? No there's not! There better not b--"

Emmy: "APRIL FOOLS LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL"

She then proceeded to go through the rest of the people in the house. "HEY MISSY, THERE'S A BUBBLE ON YOUR NOSE APRIL FOOLS LOLOLOL"; "HEY GRANDMA THERE'S A LADYBUG ON YOUR GLASSES" "oh awesome, I love ladybugs~" "....LOL APRIL FOOLS!" She tried to ~fool~ Papa (Dustin's sort-of stepdad, Missy's father) with "THERE'S A LADYBUG ON YOUR HEAD", but he chose that moment to display a handful of dead Asian beetles he'd picked up off the carpet and go "LOL IN MY HAND TOO". Emmy went, "....AHH D:" and ran into the kitchen, then turned around and called "APRIL FOOLS LOLOLOLOLOL"

We're taking her to her first Easter egg hunt this Saturday, at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport--supposedly they have like 35,000 eggs or something, in four or five separate fields (I think four are for age groups, and one for special needs kids). So hopefully there will be pictures :D

So, my baby is four years old today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMY

Today we:

~Had breakfast at The Machine Shed. Two servers sang a decidedly different birthday song to her, which she was less than pleased with, wanting the ORIGINAL "happy birthday to youuuuu" song and nothing else.
~Went to the mall to the Build-A-Bear workshop
~Made cereal treats (~*Cupcake*~ Pebbles marshmallow treats) to share with the kids at daycare
~Played at the park

half a dozen pictures, most of opening a present )

Today I:

~Sucked my cheek against the exposed nerve under one of my broken teeth and had paaaain during breakfast (good thing I carry acetaminophen, but omg ow)
~Got sticky marshmallow all over my hands
~Had a lot of difficulty staying awake (conked out while Emmy was at daycare for a couple of hours)
~Smashed my finger in a shopping cart
~Can't stop coughing still ):

AND NOW I FEEL OLD, TOO. HAVING A FOUR-YEAR-OLD WTF.

Sooooo driving in post-Christmas traffic in a huge city is fun, right? We went to Davenport to try to do Emmy's Build-A-Bear (which went pretty well, she chose a grey ballerina kitty and fell asleep in the car with it)...and it was packed, of course. Getting out of the parking lot proved interesting.

We got in the car, and then couldn't back up because there was this old lady in a car directly behind ours. I thought she might've been waiting for another car to pull out so she could have their spot, but we couldn't see anyone else moving. There were lots of people walking in the middle of the roads though, so it would've been hard to back out, plus a lot of cars going around this old lady's car and zipping by. We couldn't get out because she was RIGHT behind us, and we sat there waiting, until Dustin finally opened his door and was like, "Um, can you move your car? Please?"

So, this old lady looks toward us, sees both of us looking, kind of throws her hands up and shakes her head in exasperation, puts her car into reverse and looks behind her...then proceeds to stomp on the gas and back up directly into the front of the truck that was waiting behind her.

UM OKAY

So then she pulls forward, gets out of her car, and goes over to the window of the truck, where another lady (35ish) had been driving and was now looking at her like "......". I saw the old lady start talking, flap her hands in our direction, then go back toward her car. The one in the truck got out and looked at the front of hers, called something about it only hitting her bumper, and got back in her truck. No, there wasn't any damage, but how did we enjoy that "UM HAY IT'S THAT GUY'S FAULT I BACKED INTO YOUR TRUCK EVEN THOUGH I WAS LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER, BECAUSE I WAS SITTING BEHIND THEIR CAR AND NOT MOVING AND HE RUSHED ME".

Happy fucking New Year to you too, lady.

My kid is a genius <3
Done completely by herself, with no prompting. After this, Dustin wrote her first and last names, and she copied them down as well. She'll be four in March, so this is probably pretty good, right? :D
longslowaccident: (Default)
Emmy: [holds Santa hat on hand] Rrroar....rroar...
Me: [typing]
Emmy: Uh, Mom? Big scary monster, here?

She'll be four in three months. Her teenage years ought to be interesting.

I KNOW I'M SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING ON NANO RIGHT NOW (AND I WILL), BUT I JUST HAD TO SAY

THAT I AM REALLY SUPERLY HAPPY :D :D

HERE ARE SOME REASONS WHY:

1. I AM GOING TO CALIFORNIA IN FEBRUARY TO SPEND A WEEK (HEAR THAT?! A WHOLE WEEK) WITH [livejournal.com profile] cueballex AND [livejournal.com profile] sunsetsinthewes, MY ISISTERS <3333
2. I HAVE MY PAID TIME OFF FOR THE TRIP APPROVED AT WORK (WITH AN EXTRA DAY TACKED ON THE END TO RECOVER FROM JETLAG/BEING SAD FOR LEAVING MY FRENZ) AND I KNOW EMMY CAN STAY WITH MY MOM FOR THE WEEK AND THEY'LL BOTH LOVE IT
3. I LOOKED AT EXPEDIA AND THE ROUND-TRIP TICKETS LOOK LIKE THEY WILL COST $200 LESS THAN WHEN I LOOKED EARLIER (FOR JULY)
4. I HAVE ENOUGH IN MY SAVINGS RIGHT NOW TO COVER IT, SO THAT'S NOT COUNTING ANYTHING I CAN SAVE BETWEEN NOW AND THEN
5. THEY ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE ME FOR THAT LONG OF A TIME :O
6. PROFIT!! (LOL NO)
7. YAYYY KELLY AND GEENA ALDSITYADSI I'M JUST SO HAPPY ABOUT BEING ABLE TO GO HANG OUT WITH THEM (AND ~CALIFORNIA~, I'M GOING TO SEE THE OCEAN YOU GUYS! ALSO THE GOLDEN GATE MAYBE AND JUST SPEND SOME TIME TOGETHER AND HAVE PRETENTIOUS COFFEE AND WHATEVER!) AND TO ACTUALLY HAVE THE TIME AND MONEY AND CAPABILITY TO DO IT
8. GEENA'S ALSO COMING IN JANUARY SO ME AND EMMY WILL SEE HER THEN!
9. ALSO KELLY, EMMY DECIDED YOUR MOM'S NAME IS "CANADA". SHE ASKED WHAT IT WAS AND I SAID I DIDN'T KNOW AND SHE DECLARED THIS, SO PLZ INFORM HER OF THIS CHANGE

ALSO

~I HAVE THE MOST AWESOME TEA EVER
~WORK HAS NOT TOTALLY SUCKED FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS DESPITE WORKING 12 HOURS, AND I'M KEEPING UP WITH MY NANO DESPITE IT
~I GOT "THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE" DVD FOR ME EMMY, OH GOD WHAT AN AWESOME MOVIE
~I ALSO HAVE FRIDAY OFF, SO ONLY ONE MORE DAY OF 12 HRS THEN I CAN SLEEP IN AND DO WHATEVER, INCLUDING BOOKING PLANE TICKETS MAYBE

HI YOU GUYS, TODAY IS PRETTY OKAY :D
longslowaccident: (Default)
AUGH so my car wouldn't start when I got out of work. Good thing Dustin put that travel power-pack dealy in my front passenger seat, so I could jump the battery myself instead of having to call someone or go back inside and ask for someone. (With the way I was parked, it would've been incredibly hard anyway.) He said he thinks there might be a loose fuel line or something, but since it cranks a little, then stops, and roars to life when I got the jumper cables on, I'm wondering if it's the battery. I just got a new one a little bit ago, so hopefully it's still under warranty. IDK IDK.

More overtime for the rest of the week. THERE HAD BETTER NOT BE SATURDAY. It's already just about Emmy's bedtime when we get home, and with trying to do NaNo and other shit, I just don't have time for anything. I barely have time to shower, and the dishes haven't been done in...well, I'm eating with a plastic fork. Maybe I can get my mom to come clean up for me ): At least I'm still trying to eat healthy--had Carnation Instant Bitch Breakfast this morning, since I couldn't find my oatmeal bowl (it slid under the front seat in the car, have it now), a thing of Soup To Go or whatever it's called for lunch, and yoghurt for a snack. Steamed broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and a bit of canned white meat chicken for dinner. I was all pissed off about the car and almost stopped for cheeseburgers on the way home, but remembered I only had a little bit of veggies left, and they were gonna go bad. Mmm, basil. Now I need more cauli. And broccoli and carrots. Will try to stop at the store on the way home tomorrow...or I'll just make brown rice in my cooker and like...I don't know, mash up some beans. Beans are pretty good, yeah? I tore some more recipes out of a magazine, mostly for soup. SOUP IS GOOD FOOD.

Emmy is watching Fern Gully and I've got to turn it off and get her into jammies. Maybe today will be a backwards NaNo day, where I go over what I've done so far and edit it, before adding more. There's no way I could post it now--it's so rough and fast and...bleh. Suppose I should just pound out the story first, then go back and edit, but it's bugging me. I kept remembering shit today at work that I need to go back and add in, or fix.

If I can get going and finish the word count for today, I'll drudge up some music. I'm thinking of starting to do a Song Of The Day sort of deal. (And I haven't forgotten about doing the 50 Top Artists thing either, that just takes more time because it requires more thought, explaining why I love my favourite bands and which songs I think are the best, versus just popping out one song link.) OKAY NOW TO GET EMMY SQUARED AWAY AND OPEN UP WORD.

EDIT:

7919 / 50000 words. 16% done!

:D
longslowaccident: (Default)

6006 / 50000 words. 12% done!

Time to stop for the night. OH GOD THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE HOURS IN THE DAY. 12 hours of work tomorrow too. It's just about Emmy's bedtime when we get home on those days ):

Tomorrow I need to eat my broccoli, gdi.

I think we just possibly have the stupidest mice in the world.

I mean, seriously. How many mice do you really see RUN DIRECTLY INTO THE CAT. He is not Tom and you are not Jerry, and he is going to win.

I was getting Emmy ready for bed in the bathroom when I see a small furry streak zip out from under the bathroom cabinet and behind the toilet. I yanked Emmy out into the hall and opened the bedroom door, where we stash Ily while we're eating (since he won't stop for hell or high water when someone has food). He was anxiously waiting there to be released, so I grabbed him and tossed him over by the tub. The mouse was in the corner, so he didn't see it, and tried to run out. I grabbed him and tossed him back. After the third time, he just looked at me like "what in the FUCK is your problem?" He was lying/crouching down and watching me...and I see the mouse come out and apparently try to go UNDER him. He feels it, and then snatches it. I tell Emmy to wait in her room since she's lingering in the hallway and making whiny sounds, then keep an eye on Ily, who's biting it and repeatedly catching it when it tries to make another break for it. It's a resilient little fucker, but Ily's really playing with it more than anything else. He gets it to the point where it can't really run, and I grab the glass container we usually keep Q-Tips in (which was empty), and bring it down over the mouse, then find a piece of cardboard (the back cover off a notebook was the first thing I found) to stick under it, to take it out to the trash bin. I told Ily he was a good boy lots of times and petted him, then gave him a slice of turkey lunchmeat for a treat (and because we're out of cat food and I couldn't stop at the store on the way home from work since I had Emmy and she's getting sick again).

So yeah. Score another point for the cat. That's at least three mice he's gotten so far, all within the last couple of weeks.

In other news, I may have figured out today how my NaNo is going to end!! I need to find someone to talk it over with, and write down more notes, and there needs to be a lot more details (reasons why one of the very main characters won't be present even though he should be, for one), but it feels good! I WAS GETTING WORRIED. Also need moar notes for the possible co-write. Good thing the weekend is coming and we were promised no work Saturday--it can all be prep.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure I've got the flu. Fever (100.4), cough that tears at my throat and lungs and brings up tons of mucus, horrible body aches, pounding headache, nausea. I'm not stuffed up or sneezing, which makes me doubt it's a cold. I started getting phlegm in my throat yesterday at work, and started up with the cough last night. In the middle of the night I woke up freezing, and noticed my entire body hurt, mostly my legs. I huddled with Dustin to try and keep warm, and when my alarm went off I was like unnnnnggh. Came out to the living room, dressed, thought about how it wasn't just the initial "mannn I've got to wake up before six in the aldigyae morning" and that I really felt crappy, and made up my mind to call in sick to work. I feel bad, since there's a ton of shit to work on and I'm part of a project that's incredibly important to the company...but I would most likely just have to leave anyway, and I don't want to infect anyone else there. Plus the thought of going outside and driving made me feel gross.

I texted my mom to see if she can pick up Emmy from Pam's and keep her overnight so she doesn't get what I've got back. She's lethargic and whiny and says she feels ocky too, but she's been getting better and it would suck for her to get ill enough for a doctor trip. If Mom can't get Emmy I'll have to drive up and get her myself, which will also SUCK, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I had some generic tussin (which actually stopped the cough far better for her, Dustin, and myself than the name brands we usually buy), some acetaminophen, and a cup of hot tea. The cough isn't constant (yet), but oh god it fucking hurts. It hurts so much I don't want to breathe in fear of angering it. Tea is helping my throat, but doesn't do shit one for the chest pain, and each cough racks my headache again too. My neck and legs still hurt like all hell, and I'm both hot and cold. As soon as I take off the flannel shirt I have on over my t-shirt, I'm freezing. Put it back on, even open, too hot. Same with my fleece pyjama pants and even the thin little socks I have...and the thin blanket I was using to cover on the sofa after I called in to work. Emmy woke up a little after eight and is currently watching Dora and Diego while Dustin's run to the post office (I got one of those cards saying they had a package for me that was originally undeliverable [no one home to sign] and he's gone to see what it is/get it) and to the store. I have a can of low sodium chicken soup in the cupboard, which really just tastes like noodle water, but right now I don't even feel hungry. I ran a pot of water through the coffee maker so I've got hot water for tea ready and waiting, and my first cup is just about cool enough to sip.

(My mom just called me back and said my father and sister have pretty much the same symptoms I have, and she's going to try calling their doctor to see if he'll call in a script for me for the same stuff he gave them. I'm fairly confident they'll say no, that I have to come in and be seen, but it's worth a shot. She's going to get Emmy from Pam's and take her to their place, since she (Mom) is not sick and staying away from the two that are, and she can keep Emmy with her. Must remind Dustin to tell Pam that my mom's going to pick her up instead of one of us.)

If anyone's going to be around on AIM today, come talk to me! I'm just going to be sitting or lying down, and there's not a hell of a lot to do since music will make my head hurt and I doubt I can think enough to write. Distractions would be a+ today, seriously.
longslowaccident: (Default)
I have some recipes collected that I've torn out of magazines and newspapers and whatever. I'll probably end up losing them, so I'm going to type up and post them, and anyone else can try them too.

Included:
Salmon, Red Pepper, and Green Bean Salad
Adobo-Glazed Mini Turkey Loaves
Sweet Potato Shepard's Pie
Pink Lemonade Cookie Pops
And something my brother makes I made him write me the recipe for. It has like oats and peanut butter and flax seed and stuff.

i'm not adopted )

Today I finally finished a scene for my story that's kind of important, so I hope anyone interested will check that out. Dustin and I went on a drive to look at the changing leaves, and I got some pictures I might post tomorrow. We were worried we might have to take Emmy to the doctor tomorrow since her cough is still pretty bad, but she didn't have a fever the whole night. Tomorrow I get to be off work in time to come home before Dustin has to leave, so we don't have to worry about sending her to daycare or to my mom's, so that's good. Hopefully she'll be getting over it by the time I get home. Fingers crossed no overtime announced tomorrow for the rest of the week, but I expect it will be. Still, a seven-hour day tomorrow is quite nice after working five hours more than that for the past several weeks. I won't have to go to bed at 10:30 tonight, or get up at 5:15 tomorrow, and that's something.
