  • 13:14:29: Halp: So, what is the last day of classes like for college students? Do you get grades/marks then, or later? Email/letters? Things of note?
  • 13:15:38: (Last day as for the term/summer. Not last as in ready for the degree.)
  • 20:05:05: The locusts in the tree are so loud I can hear them inside over the fans AND air-conditioner.
  • 20:11:06: A regrettable sight... http://twitpic.com/2811uo
  • 20:19:28: Slipped my mind that I could use my brain; I'll stay up all night and crash on the plane
  • 21:11:04: 112,500 songs scrobbled to last.fm since August of 2006. (And that's not counting all I listened to at work before I got an iPod.)
  • 21:11:36: (Since my Creative Zen didn't work with iTunes/last.fm, of course.)

I don't know if someone answered this on Twitter, or if the info will be helpful now, but the last day of class is usually the final. It's not the same time as the usual class period, but schools try to make it as close as possible. Students come in with their number 2 pencils, scantrons, and blue books, and take the exam. When they're done, they leave. The professor might have past assignments/tests/essays graded that she'll pass out before the exam, but that's pretty rare. Sometimes the final exam is a presentation or portfolio. Presentations will be done in the classes leading up to the final and in the final exam period. Portfolios are turned in at the last day of lecture or at the professor's office before the end of term.

If you're talking about the last day of class, as in the last class before the final, it's usually either a review, the last lecture, or some sort of oral presentation done by the students. If classes don't have a final, or the final isn't comprehensive (i.e. just another big exam), it's typically the one of the last two.

Final grades are posted online at a later date. Some professors will have the grades up to that point done, and will make time for the students to look at theirs either during class or office hours.

I was writing a scene with one of my characters, and I wanted him to be completely done with classes for the semester--the last day overall. It's his freshman year and he is/going to be studying architecture...Kelly explained to me what he'd be studying each year for the degrees, but I can't remember right now, and that wasn't relevant to the story really, since it was a "YAY OMFG I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL FOR THE SUMMER" sort of deal. I mostly needed to know if he'd have his grades already or need to look them up later, which is the answer everyone else (two or three people that responded) said, so I'm glad that works.
